Noyes Cultural Arts Center A series of projects incorporating both historical preservation and renovation as well as handicapped accessibility throughout this existing Evanston landmark building that was originally designed by Daniel Burnham as an elementary school and subsequently converted for use a center for performing arts, artists studios and workshops, drama and dance classrooms and studio and other fine- and performing arts activities. The projects we have completed over the ten-year period beginning in 1993 have included: •Replacement of all 142 existing wood double-hung and awning windows of the original existing building with new double-glazed, thermal-break aluminum windows incorporating window profiles and a muntin grid pattern that replicated the existing wood window division pattern. •A new handicapped ramp at west side of building to provide access to first level of the building in compliance with ADA requirements. •Renovation and modification of all six public toilet rooms, installation of a new chair lift, installation of a new passenger elevator extending from the Basement sculpture, painting and jewelry-making studios to the 1st Floor dance and performance studios and administrative offices and up to the 2nd Floor studios and classrooms, modifications to public corridors, stairs, lighting, plumbing, alarm system and sprinkler system to provide compliance with ADA handicapped accessibility requirements throughout the building. •Exterior masonry repair, replacement, tuckpointing and painting, gutter and downspout replacement, a new insulated ceiling and lighting in the former gymnasium wing, stairway and exit lighting, new exterior lighting, renovation of the main interior corridors including wall treatments and new lighting to provide gallery and exhibition spaces, a central building exhaust-ventilation system, and new offices for the building administration-management including an accessible reception area, work spaces and offices with new lighting and air conditioning. •Replacement of all existing wood windows in 1951 gymnasium with new double-glazed, thermal break aluminum windows and installation of a new air conditioning system and a separate heating system as part of the conversion of this wing into an acrobatic performance-classroom- training space.
